Bullet The applications section of Fretboard Logic is where it all comes together. Now you will approach the music of your own choosing from both a creative and analytical perspective.
As musicians, we are all on what could be termed an "experiential spectrum." On one end of this spectrum, we experience music by attempting to play and understand other people's musical expressions. On the other, we try to develop our own musical ideas. What is interesting is that both require much the same tools materials and methods, but must be approached differently. Different composers use different component materials and thought processes to achieve their results. So when analyzing another composer's music, we will examine each element and how they work together to achieve the net result. Similarly, when developing our own ideas, the goal is to create interest and define a style. By using a process of creative selection from the available resources, we can produce music in the style of our own choosing according to our own particular abilities. This unique approach to learning continues the Fretboard Logic tradition of looking at things differently in order to achieve a better understanding and a greater range of abilities.

Bullet Where the first two volumes in the series were written in the "building block" style, Volume III is a non-linear presentatiion. You can study the areas of interest to you in the order which will help you the most.
This non-linear approach will allow each guitarist to make the most efficient use of his or her time. Depending on your musical background, the material presented can be more or less new or already familiar. Presenting the different subjects this way means you will be able to focus on the areas of interest to you in the order which is the most appealing given your goals and experience. Naturally, if an area of interest is already somewhat familiar, you can use it as a refresher or to fill in gaps in your understanding.

Bullet The first two books dealt with the constants - the things which will apply to you as a guitarist regardless of what style of music or type of guitar you play. Volume III introduces the variables - those things which will change from player to player based on their own personal preferences.
Each of us as guitarists are a little bit the same and a little bit different. The ability to focus on our personal strengths and weakness as we see fit, will allow us to grow in the direction which is most appropriate and at the speed which is most comfortable. As we progress, we begin to fill in gaps in our understanding and more and more of the total picture comes into view. In our developmental stages, it is important that we are not square pegs being forced into round holes stylistically or otherwise. Since our personal identity is so bound up in our musical choices, the educational materials we choose should be able to support these choices. This is another one of the core issues which sets Fretboard Logic apart from other methods.

Bullet Where the focus of Volumes I and II were necessarily narrow, the focus of Volume III is intentionally broad.
